When we need to figure out what’s wrong with your pet, we routinely use radiographs and ultrasound imaging to help identify the cause of the problem, rule in/out possible problems, or provide a list of possible causes for your pet’s afflictions.
Ultrasounds are most commonly used alongside X-rays and together, they help provide valuable information about your pet’s gestation (pregnancy), genitourinary system (bladder, prostate), gastrointestinal tract (stomach, intestines, colon), and respiratory tract (lungs and heart).
Most commonly, ultrasounds are used to identify free fluid in the abdomen and/or chest, bladder stones/crystals, heartbeat identification during pregnancy and select organ imaging. Interpretation of ultrasound images can be done by your veterinarian in clinic, or images can be sent out to a specialist for more complex cases. If you have any questions about our ultrasound service or what to expect during your pet’s procedure, please don’t hesitate to ask.
