Preanesthetic Bloodwork

At Coaldale Pet Clinic, we offer preanesthetic bloodwork as an option with surgeries. Preanesthetic bloodwork helps us to see how the internal organs are functioning, specifically the liver and kidneys, as it is these organs that get rid of the anesthetic from the body. The bloodwork is a pre-surgery screening test to ensure that the organs are healthy enough to undergo general anesthesia and surgery. In young and healthy animals, the bloodwork is not mandatory, but is strongly recommended. However, in sick and senior pets (over the age of 7), the preanesthetic bloodwork may be required at the veterinarians discretion.
