IV (intravenous) fluids are offered as an option with all surgeries. IV fluids help us to maintain bloodpressure throughout the surgery, as well as to flush the anesthetic from your pet’s body faster than if your pet had to do it on its own. IV fluids are not mandatory in young and healthy pets, but are strongly recommended. All pets undergoing a major surgery receive an IV catheter, which gives us access to their bloodstream in case of an emergency. Should an emergency occur, or if the pet’s bloodpressure drops below a safe range, fluids are automatically started. IV fluids are included in the price of all dentistries, and are required with surgeries in sick and senior pets.
